It's official, Mashery Co-Founder and Board Member Scott Rafer has successfully closed the sale of MyBlogLog (of which he is CEO) to Yahoo! It's been great fun watching the process - he met the MBL founders through LinkedIn and convinced them to morph what was a simple analytics play into an innovative approach to building a social network.
At the recent Web 2.0 Conference, I was camped in one side of the First Round Capital Pavilion talking to people about Mashery, while Scott held court across the room and received a steady stream of Yahoos, each of whom would watch the demo and return a few minutes later with others who wanted to see it. The last demo was given to Yahoo co-founder David Filo, and then the corp dev people took over. The deal took some fascinating twists and turns along the way, and the end result was a happy one for all concerned.
Scott and I first began to collaborate almost seven years ago. I look forward to many more years of working together with him. I'm excited that, with this deal closed, he'll be able to focus more effort on Mashery. Today, though, is a day to celebrate his success, and that of the rest of the MBL team, several of whom have helped us out a lot with Mashery. Congratulations to all of you!
Mazal tov and simal tov may they share a long life together!
